Dialight Partners with SME Eurofinance to offer financing for energy-efficient LED lighting upgrades

Flexible financing plans help organisations achieve more immediate energy and cost savings as well as reduced carbon emissions

Newmarket, UK (14 December 2010)— Dialight (LSE: DIA.L) announced today that it has partnered with SME Eurofinance Group plc, asset finance and equipment finance specialists, to extend affordable and flexible leasing and lending options to customers looking to upgrade their existing lighting fixtures to Dialight’s high-efficiency, long-life LED lighting solutions.

Dialight wins electronic industry award for DuroSite™ LED High Bay


Dialight picked up the Elektra award for Solid State Lighting Applications at the European Electronics Industry Awards 2010 in the Lancaster Hotel, London on Thursday 9 December 2010Newmarket, UK – 14 December 2010 – The company beat off stiff competition in the form of finalists Marl International, Osram and TT electronics OPTEK Technology to scoop the award for which solid state lighting products were judged on their performance, design flexibility and suitability for an application.

Farmingdale, NJ (November 30, 2010)—The U.S. Department of Energy has closed a controversial loophole in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and is now mandating that all stimulus-funded LED traffic signal projects across the country use U.S.-made equipment. The move positions Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the global leader in LED lighting technology, as the only qualified supplier of U.S.-manufactured, fully-compliant LED traffic signal modules to meet the Buy American mandate.

The contentious waiver of the Buy American provision had previously allowed contracts for LED traffic signals to be awarded to foreign suppliers, effectively sending U.S. stimulus dollars and manufacturing jobs overseas. In response, Dialight has recently scaled up to meet increasing demand for its ultra energy-efficient and low-maintenance LED traffic signals, investing some $2 million and adding more than 80 jobs over the last two years.

Dialight has already supplied at least one-third of all LED traffic signals in the U.S. since 2008 and is well-positioned to meet the expected surge in demand as a result of the overturned waiver. The company plans to make an additional $1 million facility investment and add another 70+ jobs over the next year to further ramp up capacity.

Food warehouses save cost and energy with Carbon Trust funded LED lighting

For the last three years Managing Director Paul Cope of UK based March Foods had been looking for a way to reduce energy consumption in his warehouses. After rejecting voltage controllers as old technology, he began to examine LED lighting as a potential smart solution. Paul Cope describes the problems he wanted to solve: “We had two 3,250 square metre (35,000 sq ft) warehouses with a total of 84 x 450W HPS lamps operating 24/5 and Saturdays. Even though we are not constantly in and out of all bays in the warehouse all the time, the old lamps couldn’t be switched off as they took 10-15 minutes to re-strike, so I wanted a more energy efficient solution. And to be honest, the lighting was getting so that Lord Lucan could have hidden in our warehouse!”

Farmingdale, NJ (October 26, 2010)—Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the global leader in LED lighting technology, today unveiled its latest innovation in LED obstruction lighting with the launch of its new Vigilant™ Series L-866/L-885 LED Dual Catenary Strobe, the first-ever LED white/red obstruction beacon designed to warn aircraft of power line and cable crossings above canyons, valleys and waterways.


This first-of-its-kind LED product to meet the L-866/L-885 spec is virtually maintenance-free for up to 10 years for dramatic cost savings, improved safety, reduced liability risk and positive ROI compared to the typical Xenon flashtubes commonly used in this application.

“Once again, Dialight has emerged as the innovation leader in the obstruction business with this remarkably longer life unit that not only slashes maintenance costs, but also reduces utility operators’ liability against accidents and compliance violations,” said Roy Burton, Dialight’s Group Chief Executive.

Typically, the support structures on either side of a span require five beacons per tower. Operating at the required 60 flashes per minute, Xenon flashtubes usually last no longer than eight months. At an average replacement cost of $550 per tube, plus tower-climb labor costs and the risk of worker injury during changeout, Xenon tube maintenance can be extremely costly.

In addition to its long life, the Vigilant L-866/L-885 is the most energy-efficient catenary strobe on the market, consuming just 120 watts per unit to produce 20,000 candela (cd) on white for daytime operation, and just 20 watts for 2,000 cd on white nighttime operation. Red nighttime operation draws just 45 watts to deliver 2,000 cd.

Ideal for use in naturalized areas where light pollution is a concern, the Vigilant L-866/L-885 leverages Dialight’s precision optics to delivering optimum visibility at altitude for small planes and helicopters, with minimal light scatter above and below.

At just 28 pounds, the low-profile, lightweight unit also reduces wind resistance and makes for easier, safer installation compared to larger, much heavier Xenon units. Further owing to its enhanced safety features, the Vigilant system operates on a low-voltage power supply and control box that can be placed at the base of the tower, eliminating the need to work with and in close proximity to high-voltage wiring and transmission lines.

Dialight announces new General Manager and Sales Director for EMEA

Gary Ashburner and Richard Gill join the UK team to strengthen Dialight’s position as a forerunner in the field of industrial LED lighting.

Gary Ashburner will join Dialight as General Manager for hazardous area and industrial lighting, having previously spent more than nine years in the oil and gas sector, most recently as managing director at SH Lighting and before that as managing director at Bartec, the largest hazardous area electrical equipment manufacturer in Europe. Gary also has extensive experience of the LED industry having spent 14 years with Marl International Ltd.

He will be joined by former Marl International director and colleague, Richard Gill, as sales director. Previously sales director at SH Lighting, Richard holds a BSc in Metallurgy from Newcastle University and has over 20 years of experience in the LED industry, most recently with two of the top five LED manufacturers – Philips Lumileds and Seoul Semiconductor.

Dialight LED Pedestrian Signals Improve Crosswalk Safety in City of Spokane


City Leverages $100,000 Federal Highways Grant to Install 132 New Countdown Timers to Meet New MUTCD Requirements

Farmingdale, NJ (DATE) – Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), an innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, announced today that the city of Spokane, Washington has completed the installation of 132 of the company’s ITE-compliant LED pedestrian countdown timers to improve crosswalk safety and comply with the latest requirements in the U.S. Dept. of Transportation Federal Highways Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

To complete the project, the city took advantage of a $100,000 Federal Highways Safety Grant to pay for the signals and the installation along Third Avenue from Division to Maple Streets, and at Second and Fourth Avenues on Maple and Walnut Streets.

“The timers will effectively improve pedestrian safety along this corridor, which was identified for the upgrade based on historical data on pedestrian and vehicle collisions from the State Department of Transportation,” said Katherine Miller, capital program manager for the city of Spokane. “The new signals are highly visible, and we were quite pleased with Dialight’s quick delivery of the product and ease of installation.”

The December 2009 revised MUTCD released by the Federal Highway Administration requires the use of countdown pedestrian signals at all new installations with a pedestrian clearance interval of ≥7 seconds. While the MUTCD did not require the retrofit of existing pedestrian signals, it does require the conversion to countdown pedestrian signals on the next scheduled replacement of the signal. To achieve early compliance, the city took advantage of the opportunity to use stimulus funds to improve intersection safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Dialight Expansion Adds New Jobs, Doubling Headcount at Roxboro, North Carolina Manufacturing Facility


Helping the economy and the environment through manufacture of “clean technologies”

Farmingdale, NJ – (August 4, 2010) – Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), an innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, has expanded a significant portion of its product manufacturing, including molding and hard coating operations, to its Roxboro, North Carolina facility. The facility will now produce environmentally friendly LED lighting and signaling solutions. This has effectively repatriated more than fifty production jobs and spurred more than $1 million in facility upgrades and investments to make Dialight’s Roxboro plant one of the only LED lighting technology manufacturing facilities of its kind in the U.S.

Dialight has invested in new equipment, bringing state-of-the-art molding equipment, vacuum metalizing, CNC machining and a one-of-a-kind hard coating clean room specifically designed for the manufacturing of LED traffic lighting products at their Roxboro facility. As a result of the expansion, headcount has more than doubled at the facility, creating numerous job opportunities for plastics engineers, manufacturing engineers and supervisors, as well as many direct labor positions.

The Roxboro facility now houses manufacturing operations for Dialight’s traffic lights, military vehicle lights, bus lighting, networking light pipes and LED auto assembly machines, making these energy efficient LED lighting solutions compliant with the government’s “Buy American” and “Made in USA” manufacturing requirements for projects funded under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Dunn quality control and inspection facility in Hamilton, Ontario, light quality and accuracy is a primary concern to ensure the company’s dry mustard products meet its stringent standards. Quality from the Ground Up

As the market leader in producing and supplying dry mustard products since 1867, G.S. Dunn has built a worldwide reputation for delivering the finest dry milled mustard products to some of the most notable names in the food industry. To ensure uncompromising quality, the company’s stringent quality inspection process requires adequate lighting for optimum visibility.

To achieve the visibility needed, the company had installed 18 powerful 450-watt fixtures in the inspection facility, with each actually consuming somewhere around 540 watts of energy to run the light and the ballast. Because of the light degradation over the life of the fixtures, ensuring optimum light quality for thorough product inspection was an ongoing challenge.

In addition to light quality issues, the powerful fixtures were expensive to operate and maintain. Not only were bulb changes a costly annual occurrence, at $100 per hour in addition to the cost of the bulbs, but the company had resorted to leaving the energy-sucking lights on 24 hours a day when a third shift was needed to meet production demands. With the metal halide’s slow warm-up period, leaving the lights on proved more operationally efficient than waiting around for the lights to warm up.

"Strong start to the year for Energy Efficient Lighting"

Dialight plc is leading the lighting revolution for industrial users across the world. Applying leading edge LED technology it produces retro-fittable lighting fixtures designed specifically for hazardous locations, obstruction lighting, traffic and rail signalling to vastly reduce maintenance, save energy, improve safety and ease disposal. Versions of these high specification luminaires are also produced for more general commercial, industrial and outdoor situations.

Signals/Illumination

The Board is pleased to report another good performance by the Signals/Illumination segment which is showing a strong revenue increase over the first half of 2009.

Highlights of the trading performance include:

  • European traffic has made a strong start to the year with significant gains in the UK market.
  • Sales of White lighting products into the Industrial Market have continued strongly and show good growth . Sales of the new High Bay Light in particular are very promising as our customers recognise the significant savings that our lights provide.
  • Shipments of White Strobe Obstruction Lights are increasing as we make deliveries against the contracts secured in 2009.
  • Re-engineering of products in line with new LED technologies continues to drive improvement in margins.

Components

The Indication market continues to strengthen and is running at a level close to normal although it is possible some of this recovery is due to restocking. We are therefore cautious as to the prospects for the remainder of the year.

Shipments of electromagnetic components for smart metering applications continue to meet our expectations based on contracts previously secured. In the medium term, substantial growth in this product area could be anticipated, however, the timing of future business is hard to predict and margins are tight.

Acquisition

On 28 April 2010 we announced the acquisition of BTI Light Systems A/S (“BTI”), a Danish company offering signaling and safety equipment for the wind, marine and airport industries. BTI’s established channels and customer relationships are complementary to Dialight’s existing US wind turbine business. This acquisition fits well into Dialight’s strategy of targeting protected, niche sectors within the lighting industry where LED technology can be applied with economic benefits.

Operating out of Copenhagen, BTI’s product portfolio comprises obstruction lighting and aids to navigation for both onshore and offshore wind turbines and airports The acquisition is expected to be earnings accretive in 2010.

Cashflow

The Group maintains a strong balance sheet and cash generation is in line with expectations.

Outlook

Dialight continues to implement its strategy for driving growth through the provision of energy efficient and environmentally friendly lighting products that provide a strong and immediate value proposition to its customers.

Based on the continued good progress of the Signals/Illumination business, together with improved margins and improvement of activity levels in the Indication Components segment, the Board is confident in maintaining its outlook for 2010.

Dialight plc, the UK based leader in applied LED technology, announces the acquisition of BTI Light Systems A/S ("BTI"), a Danish company offering signaling and safety equipment for the wind, marine and airport industries. BTI is being acquired from its management for a total consideration of DKK 26m (£3.0m), DKK 18m (£2.1m) of which is payable in cash with the remainder in Dialight shares.

Operating out of Copenhagen, BTI's product portfolio comprises obstruction lighting and aids to navigation for both onshore and offshore wind turbines and airports. In its most recent audited accounts for the year to 30 September 2009, BTI reported revenues of DKK 32.1m (£3.7m), an EBIT of DKK 3.8m (£0.45m), a profit after tax of DKK 2.8m (£ 0.3m) and gross assets of DKK 15.2m (£1.8 m). The acquisition is expected to be earnings accretive in 2010. The Chief Executive of BTI, Mr. Max Hansen, will remain with the business for a period of at least two years.

To satisfy the share based element of the consideration, application has been made to the UK Listing Authority and the London Stock Exchange for 360,730 ordinary shares of 1.89p each to be admitted to the Official List and to trading on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.

These shares rank pari passu with the existing issued shares of the Company and dealings are expected to commence on 4 May 2010. Following admission, the Company will have 31,600,231 ordinary shares in issue.
