With options of 10,900 lumens (131W) and 20,250 lumens (252W), Dialight’s new StreetSense® LED fitting carries a seven-year full performance warranty and provides excellent quality of light for facility roadways in oil, gas, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and other hazardous applications.


The new IP66-rated Zone 2 certified luminaire is designed for side entry and enables easy change-out from existing cobra head type fittings to help reduce maintenance costs, as well as achieving sustainability and energy efficiency goals. It also offers robust, integrated 6kV surge protection as standard and is available with a choice of four or six LED light engines.

The compact and practical StreetSense fitting utilizes key optical management to deliver precision light placement and uniform light distribution with sharp cut-off to minimise light trespass. Designed to handle 3,000 hours of salt spray, Dialight’s new streetlight offers maximum energy efficiency and reliability in the harshest environments to provide a safe general area lighting solution with economical cost of ownership over its lifetime.


Delivering up to 83 lumens per Watt and 70% lumen maintenance over 100,000 hours, the new StreetSense fitting leverages Dialight’s own proprietary integrated driver to maximize performance and thermal management within a compact and lightweight housing. With instant-on ability and a power factor greater than 0.90, the new streetlight features a rugged, die cast aluminum housing with Ex nA protection method and a 6mm tempered glass lens. The high-output StreetSense fitting operates at 100-277V to provide a superior quality, neutral white light with a CRI of 70 and 4,300K CCT.

Dialight Introduces New Line of Vigilant® LED Aircraft Obstruction Lighting


Dialight Adds Next Generation L-864/L-865 Medium Intensity Red/White Strobe and L-864 Medium Intensity Red Beacon with Improved Size, Weight and Efficiency

Farmingdale, NJ (Aug. 29, 2013) – Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the innovative global leader in LED technology, today announced a new line of Vigilant® aircraft obstruction LED lighting that offers a number of advancements on their already superior obstruction product line. With FAA certification for all tower and aircraft obstruction heights, the new Vigilant obstruction lighting line provides lower power consumption, smaller size, less wind load and lighter weight.


The new Vigilant line offers the L-864/L-865 dual medium intensity red/white strobe in the same small and light weight housing as the L-864, which results in a 5-pound weight reduction. This generation of LED obstruction lighting also adds the red L-864 beacon that is 25% smaller and 22 lbs. lighter than the previously white-only version. Dialight’s Vigilant beacons and strobes are the first product line to be fully tested and verified by Intertek ETL to the 2012 Transport Canada CAR 621 specification.

Ruggedized for harsh conditions, the L-856 High Intensity Strobe is designed for operation in ambient temperature range of -40C to +55C and is highly resistant to lightning, vibration and shock. The Dialight Photometric & Electrical Lab is one of only a few Level IV facilities in the industry, qualified through the Intertek SATELLITE™ Data Acceptance Program to independently conduct IES-LM-79-08 Approved Method: Electrical and Photometric Measurements of Solid-State Lighting Products and In-situ Temperature Measurement Tests (ISTMT). With this lab located in their headquarters, Dialight can now generate the required IES files needed to certify the performance of its industry-leading commercial and industrial LED lighting solutions.

The directory features suppliers which have been independently assessed and accredited via the Carbon Trust Accredited Supplier scheme in order to aid organisations looking to install energy efficient and low carbon technologies.

The news comes on the back of new research from the Carbon Trust that found while 96 percent of businesses surveyed said that energy efficiency is an important consideration when purchasing or upgrading equipment, only half were confident about manufacturers’ energy efficiency claims. 58 percent of those surveyed said that they would benefit from a trusted database of accredited suppliers in advance of purchasing equipment.

The accreditation process requires applicants to submit case studies of their work and answer a number of questions –including several on insurance and whether the company holds recognised qualifications for quality assurance, environmental management and health and safety.

Dialight Debuts Next Generation Class I Div 2 SafeSite® LED Linear Fixture


LED Linear Fixture Delivers Industry Leading 106 Lumens per Watt in a Lightweight, Low Profile Fixture with Sealed, Integrated Wiring Box

Farmingdale, NJ (July 24th, 2013) – Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, today unveiled its next-generation LED Linear fixture, the most efficient solution of its kind for Class I Div 2 certified hazardous applications such as on- and offshore drilling rigs, platforms and other oil, gas, chemical, petrochemical and hazardous location facilities.  The fixture is intended to replace traditional fluorescent and HID lighting fixtures, and is also available for non-classified general purpose industrial applications.

Delivering an ultra-efficient 106 lumens per Watt, the new SafeSite LED Linear fixture is available in 2-foot (33W) and 4-foot (66W) models and is less than an inch in height and 11 lbs. making installation and maintenance simpler, safer and less cumbersome. The 100-277VAC linear fixtures also feature an integrated wiring box to provide easy access for making electrical connections in a separate compartment.

The 3,500-7,000 lumen fixture emits a cool white light at 5,000K CCT with a standard 70 CRI for crisp and clear illumination. With 80 CRI models also available, the new SafeSite linear provides optimum visibility for process, testing and inspection areas.

Featuring a T4a temperature rating for use in ambient conditions ranging from -40°C to +65°C (-40F to +149F), the new SafeSite Linear is L70 rated for more than 100,000 hours of continuous performance even in the harshest conditions. With the entire fixture backed by Dialight’s 5-year full-performance warranty, hazardous facilities receive a decade or more of worry-free and maintenance-free reliable lighting. The product is UL-1598/A, UL-8750 and IP66 rated, resistant to salt, dust and moisture, including up to 20 PSI of direct water spray. With a general purpose UL1598/A version in development, the SafeSite Linear fixture is also tested to UL-844 for 35 hours at 2,000 CPM for superior resistance to shock and vibration and boasts 6kV surge protection.

Dialight Launches LED Traffic Signal Modules with 15-Year Warranty


Pioneer in LED Traffic Light Technology Debuts New Patent Pending Fully-ETL Third Party Tested Signal Modules at IMSA in Phoenix

Scottsdale, AZ (July 22nd, 2013) – Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the innovative leader in LED traffic signal technology, today announced the release of their new ultra-efficient XL15 LED traffic signal modules backed by a 15-year full performance warranty. The company will debut the new modules July 20-23 at the 2013 International Municipal Signals Association’s Annual Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona in booth No. 402.

The new LED traffic signal modules utilize Hi-Flux LED technology and a Dialight-designed power supply with enhanced thermal management integrated into the fixture — more than doubling the modules’ life. Consuming between seven to 12 Watts, the 12-inch red, yellow and green signal modules are extremely efficient compared to existing 20 Watt LED units and incandescent signals, which can use up to 150 Watts.

Dialight Launches Emergency Version of its SafeSite® Stainless Steel ATEX/IECEx LED Linear Luminaire


Next generation Zone 1 LED fitting delivers three hours of illumination on battery backup for superior safety and reliability in hazardous areas

The new LED emergency light operates from -20°C to +60°C and will deliver at least three and up to eight hours on battery backup, while most conventional emergency lights operate only within the 0°C to +40°C range. By being able to operate across such a wide temperature range, this first-of-its-kind LED fitting with battery backup and integrated power supply will meet the emergency lighting needs of a wider range of applications than has been possible with traditional fluorescent lighting.

Ideally suited for offshore drilling operations, refineries and other hazardous areas where vibrations and shock shorten the life of traditional lamps and luminaires, the 35W and 70W fitting is designed to replicate the output of conventional 2X18W and 2x36W fluorescents  for more robust, long-life emergency lighting. Both LED fittings deliver 270 lumens in battery backup mode which is maintained over the life of the battery.

Dialight LED Lighting Products Qualify for Australian SSL Quality Scheme

Qualification for the Scheme lends confidence to the Australian market with independent verification of manufacturer claims for LED lighting products

Farmingdale, NJ (July 15th, 2013) - Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, today announced that it has had the distinction of having eight of its industry-leading LED lighting products qualify for the Lighting Council of Australia SSL Quality Scheme.  Based on a scheme introduced by the US Department of Energy in conjunction with the US lighting industry, the SSL Quality Scheme is a voluntary industry scheme that provides confidence to the market that a luminaire carrying the Scheme’s label matches certain performance claims made by the supplier.

As Solid State Lighting (SSL) technology has demonstrated its ability to substantially increase energy efficiency across a wide range of lighting applications, the rapid growth of SSL has resulted in an increasing number of new LED products on the Australian market. While Lighting Council Australia notes that there are some excellent LED products available, it observes that the market is also being subjected to underperforming product that does not live up to its supplier’s claims. The Council’s concern is that such poor performing product can undermine confidence among users and discourage early adopters of the technology, potentially resulting in delay or otherwise compromising the substantial energy savings achievable with LED lighting.

In order to participate in the Scheme a minimum set of critical parameters is reported by participating LED luminaire suppliers to accurately reflect the performance of their products. Scheme participants provide test reports or other evidence to Lighting Council Australia verifying their claims and the Council then registers the product on a database on its website (www.lightingcouncil.com.au) and authorizes use of a label owned by Lighting Council indicating conformance to the parameters.

 
The critical parameters appearing on the SSL Quality Scheme Label are:
• Luminaire efficacy
• Light output of the luminaire
• Measured input power
• Correlated colour temperature
• Colour rendering index

Carrying a five-year full performance warranty the CE compliant Dialight LED Conveyor Light is L70 rated for >100,000 hours representing minimal lumen depreciation over the life of the fitting. Dialight Launches Range of TIIS-certified LED Hazardous Area Lighting for Japan

Case Study: Horizontal Well Drillers Eliminates Rig Lighting Maintenance, Saves Big on Fuel Bills with Upgrade to Dialight LED Hazardous Location Lighting

A State-of-the-Art Masterpiece
At full deployment, Horizontal Well Drillers’ flagship HWD1000 rig is a 92 ft., 250-ton top drive masterpiece of state-of-the-art technology capable of 17,000 foot drilling depth in a fully automated system. Requiring just one day to set up and another to tear down with low moving cost, the crown jewel in the fleet delivers 26,000 lbs. of torque powered by a pair of 14.0-liter Detroit engines cranking out 1,300hp.


But despite all this next-generation system technology, the HWD100 was reliant upon last generation’s T8 fluorescent lighting technology to ensure adequate illumination for its round-the-clock operation--much like the many other rigs feverishly tapping the high-value Marcellus Shale Gas formation locked deep under the Appalachian Mountains.

Plagued by Incessant Lighting Maintenance
Requiring a Class I Div 1 and Class I Div 2 compliant solution to light the derrick, cellar, mud pit and shaker areas, the T8 technology was functional, but not optimal. The high-vibration environment created by the HWD1000 boring through layers of eons-old compressed rock, plus frequent transport of the rig from one site to another caused premature lighting failures. Despite lifetime ratings of some 30,000 hours for the T8 fixtures, most lasted only a small fraction of that time—typically just 6 months—in the harsh, corrosive environment, even with nighttime-only operation.


“Sometimes we could get away with just changing a bulb, but usually the entire fixture would be corroded and need a complete rebuild or replacement,” said Grizzly Kristian, the lead electrician at the company’s drill site near Lock Haven, Penn. “With eight or nine lights per derrick, plus a couple in the BOP [blowout preventer] and over the shakers, each rig might have 12-13 lights, so lighting maintenance was a big part of our job.” In fact, it was becoming too big.

Looking for a more reliable and efficient alternative, the company discovered Dialight SafeSite® hazardous location certified lighting at an oil and gas trade show hosted by Dialight authorized distributor Friedman Electric Supply. Immediately, HWD saw the potential for the ruggedized, high-efficiency LEDs to eliminate its seemingly never-ending lighting maintenance. The Dialight SafeSite High Bay and Linear products proved to be exactly the high-tech solution HWD needed to illuminate its high-tech drilling machine.


With Class I Div 1 and Class I Div 2 certified products rated for more than 100,000 hours and backed by a 5-year fullperformance warranty, the Dialight solutions have delivered the right combination of safety, reliability and long-life performance for HWD. The company installed two Class I Div1 High Bays in the BOP area offering 9,500 lumen output at just 142W for a high-efficiency 67 lumens per watt. Over the shakers and on the rig, HWD installed a mix of 2- foot and 4-foot Class I Div 1 and Class I Div 2 Linear fixtures, providing an exceptional 93 lumens per watt for maximum efficiency, visibility and safety while consuming just half the electricity compared to the T8 fixtures. Plus, Dialight’s precision optics place the light exactly where it’s needed for a more efficient lighting schematic that’s also less intrusive to the surrounding communities near HWD’s drilling sites.

Dialight Delivers: Zero Maintenance + 60% Fuel Savings
As part of its rotating retrofit system, HWD has now replaced the entire lighting system on four of its rigs with Dialight LED hazardous location rated fixtures. In fact, the company is systematically replacing every T8 fixture that fails on every rig with Dialight LEDs, aiming for a complete LED retrofit of the entire fleet.


With the first rigs fully outfitted with LEDs, the company has already seen an immediate ROI. “The Dialight LEDs are definitely paying for themselves,” Kristian said. “The ability to avoid having to change out just one T8s pays for one of the LEDs—no question.”

In addition to the substantial maintenance savings, HWD has also realized significant fuel savings as well. With two massive diesel generators running in alternating 12-hour shifts, the company’s electricity cost computes to roughly $1 per kWh—a rate far higher than any utility provider in the United States. Even with specially-negotiated fuel rates, HWD’s fuel bill is a major chunk of its operating expenses.

“The more we can do to reduce the load, this translates into direct cost savings,” said Mike Dillard, Manager of Northeast Operations. “Switching out from fluorescents to the Dialight LEDs on the derrick saved us about 60 percent in our energy costs immediately and freed up capacity to power other activities more critical to the operation.”

Employees have also been quick to appreciate the lighting improvement, pointing out that the work area around the LED-equipped rigs is so much brighter with the Dialight LEDs in place, which improves worksite safety.

Thoroughly impressed with the benefits of the changeout to LEDs so far, HWD already has plans to outfit new rigs with Dialight LEDs as part of the initial build process, and is looking to replace additional perimeter fixtures at their drill sites with Dialight LED lighting as soon as the next generation of products becomes available.

Dialight Debuts Class I Div 2 LED Linear Fixture with Integrated Battery Backup


First-of-its-Kind SafeSite® LED Linear Fixture Delivers 4 Hours of Light on Battery Backup for Superior Safety and Reliability in Hazardous Locations

Farmingdale, NJ (April 16th, 2013) – Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, today unveiled its new SafeSite® LED Linear Fixture with integrated battery backup, the first LED fixture of its kind to provide at least three full hours of illumination on battery backup for Class I Div 2 hazardous locations.

Ideally suited for offshore drilling operations, refineries and other classified environments, the four-foot linear fixture is designed to replace conventional fluorescent & HID fixtures for more energy efficient, long-life emergency lighting.

The SafeSite Linear with battery backup leverages Dialight’s industry-leading low-wattage LED design, customized driver circuitry and optimized power supply to deliver years of stand-by life on the integrated, high-performance 3.6V NiMH battery. Built-in battery status indicator and press-to-test functionality ensure reliable performance in the event of a power failure.

The 85W fixture delivers 7,000 lumens on primary power, with 450 lumens in battery backup mode which is maintained over the life of the battery. Versatile mounting options include both overhead and inline conduit mounting, while an optional bracket enables ceiling or other overhead structure mount.

The fixture carries a T4a temperature rating and ambient operating range of -20°F to +149°F. The powder coated aluminum chassis and polycarbonate lens provide high impact resistance, and the fixture is IP66 and NEMA 4X rated for ingress protection. In addition to UL-1598A, UL-924 and UL-844, the SafeSite Linear with Battery Backup is also CSA 22.2 rated to meet Canadian standards.
A field-replaceable battery with at least 3 hours of expected life and Dialight’s 5-year full-performance warranty ensure many years of worry-free performance.

In addition to the Linear, the integrated battery backup is also available on Dialight’s SafeSite LED Wallpack / Bulkhead Fixture.
